St James's Places search for an "inspirational " chief executive could take six to nine months, the upmarket wealth manager said as it reported a 58 per cent increase in sales last year.

Mike Wilson, chairman of St James's, which this month parted company with Mark Lund, its chief executive, said the group was unlikely to make an appointment before the second half of this year.
