England fail to plunder run riches

By Ben Hunt at Edgbaston

Financial Times, Jul 30, 2004

Andrew Flintoff and Geraint Jones have much work to do this morning against the second new ball if England are to build a substantial total in the second Test after improved West Indian bowling restricted them to 313-5 after a fine century from opener Marcus Trescothick.

When Michael Vaughan won the toss and chose to bat on a track that has produced lots of runs in recent years, he would not have entertained the idea of England scoring any less than 450, but when Graham Thorpe became the fifth and final specialist batsman to depart the score was just 262.
