Allies 'not prepared for huge humanitarian crisis'

Plans to cope with a potentially enormous humanitarian crisis in the wake of conflict in Iraq are inadequate, according to a report by an influential Commons committee.

The report, which warned of ethnic infighting in Iraq if Saddam Hussein was overthrown, called on Britain, the US and its allies to include setting up safe havens in their preparations for possible war. Nearly 1m people could be displaced in a conflict, it warned.
