Brussels warns on modified organism rules

By Daniel Dombey in Brussels

Financial Times, Apr 11, 2003

Twelve European Union countries have been warned by the European Commission over their failure to apply rules for genetically modified organisms at the centre of a simmering trade dispute.

The Commission has formally asked countries including France, Germany, Austria and Italy to pass legislation on the release of GMOs into the environment, or face legal action in the European Court of Justice. The countries failed to meet a deadline of October 17 last year.
